Emergency Call-Out: Rapid Belt Replacement for a Tomra NIR Optical Sorter at an MRF

At Hoverdale, we understand that downtime in a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) can have a serious impact on operations and revenue. When a valued customer experienced a belt failure on their Tomra NIR optical sorter, they needed a fast and effective solution to keep their plant running smoothly.

What Does a Tomra NIR Optical Sorter Do?

Tomra NIR (Near-Infrared) optical sorting machines are high-performance sorting systems used in MRFs and recycling plants to separate materials based on their composition. Using advanced sensor technology, these machines can quickly and accurately detect and sort various materials, such as:

– Plastics (e.g., PET, HDPE, PVC)
– Paper and cardboard
– Metals
– Glass and other recyclables

By using NIR technology, these machines ensure high-quality material separation, improving recycling efficiency and reducing contamination in processed materials. However, the sorter’s conveyor belt plays a crucial role in maintaining this efficiency—if it fails, the entire system grinds to a halt, causing costly downtime.

24/7 Emergency Response & Expert Installation

When the belt on the Tomra NIR sorter failed, it caused an immediate disruption to the plant’s operations. Our 24/7 emergency call-out service meant that we could respond immediately, arriving onsite within an hour to get the system back up and running as quickly as possible. – A new PVC belt was expertly fitted – The belt was hot vulcanised to ensure maximum durability and longevity – The repair was carried out efficiently and safely, minimising downtime With our UK-wide coverage, our engineers can respond quickly to emergencies anywhere in the country, ensuring that plants stay operational with minimal disruption.

Minimising Downtime, Maximising Profitability

By responding quickly and professionally, we ensured that the MRF plant was back up and running in the shortest time possible. With materials flowing again, our customer was able to maintain productivity, meet recycling quotas, and keep revenue streams intact.
