Carryback and Spillage Solutions with Hoverdale UK’s Motorised Brush Cleaner

Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs) and Bulk Materials Handling Plants face various operational challenges when it comes to conveyor belt maintenance. One of the most persistent issues is carryback—the material that sticks to the conveyor belt even after it has passed the discharge point. Left unchecked, carryback can lead to spillage, excessive wear on equipment, safety hazards, and costly downtime. To tackle these problems, Hoverdale UK offers an innovative solution: their motorised brush cleaner for conveyor systems.

The Problem: Carryback and Spillage

Carryback is more than just an inconvenience; it poses significant operational and financial risks. When material adheres to the conveyor belt, it can fall off at various points along the return path, leading to spillage. Over time, spillage builds up under the conveyor system, requiring regular and labour-intensive clean-up. Left unaddressed, this build-up can damage critical components, such as idlers and pulleys, and pose slip hazards to personnel.

Moreover, the presence of carryback often increases the strain on conveyor components, leading to premature wear and tear. This, in turn, results in higher maintenance costs and unplanned downtime, which can disrupt production schedules and negatively impact profitability.

For MRFs, carryback can also contaminate recycling streams, compromising the purity of sorted materials and reducing the facility’s overall efficiency. Spillage can create environmental concerns in bulk materials handling, particularly when handling materials like coal, fertiliser, or hazardous substances.

The Solution: Hoverdale’s Motorised Brush Cleaner

Hoverdale UK’s motorised brush cleaner is a highly effective tool designed to combat carryback on conveyor systems. Unlike traditional scrapers, which may struggle to remove fine or sticky materials, the motorised brush cleaner provides a superior cleaning solution for a wide range of applications.

The motorised brush cleaner works by using a rotating cylindrical brush powered by an electric or pneumatic motor. The brush is positioned along the return path of the conveyor belt and operates at a high speed to dislodge any remaining material from the belt’s surface. The bristles of the brush are made from durable materials that can effectively clean the belt without causing damage.

By investing in this innovative solution, facilities can reduce downtime, minimise maintenance costs, and achieve safer, more environmentally friendly operations.

Key Benefits of the Motorised Brush Cleaner

1. Enhanced Cleaning Efficiency
The high-speed rotating brush ensures thorough cleaning, even for fine, wet, or sticky materials that traditional methods struggle to handle. This reduces carryback to negligible levels.

2. Reduced Maintenance Requirements
By preventing material build-up on conveyor components, the motorised brush cleaner reduces wear and tear, extending the lifespan of the conveyor system and lowering maintenance costs.

3. Improved Safety
Eliminating spillage under the conveyor belt reduces slip hazards and the risk of equipment malfunctions caused by debris build-up.

4. Versatile Application
Hoverdale’s motorised brush cleaner can be tailored to fit various belt widths and operating conditions, making it suitable for MRFs, bulk-handling plants, and other industries handling diverse materials.

5. Environmental Compliance
By preventing material spillage and reducing waste, the motorised brush cleaner supports cleaner operations and helps facilities meet environmental regulations.
