1. Belt Misalignment (Tracking Issues)

Symptoms:

  • Belt shifts to one side during operation.
  • Uneven wear on the belt edges.

Common Causes:

  • Misaligned pulleys or rollers.
  • Improper tensioning of the belt.
  • Accumulation of debris on pulleys or rollers.
  • Worn or damaged conveyor components.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Inspect the alignment of pulleys, idlers, and rollers; adjust as necessary.
  2. Ensure the belt is properly tensioned according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  3. Clean any debris or material buildup on the rollers and pulleys.
  4. Check for and replace any worn or damaged components, such as rollers or frames.

2. Belt Slippage

Symptoms:

  • Belt does not move smoothly or slips off the drive pulley.
  • Reduced belt speed or stoppages.

Common Causes:

  • Insufficient belt tension.
  • Contamination (e.g., oil, water, or dirt) on the drive pulley.
  • Worn drive pulley lagging or belt surface.
  • Excessive load on the conveyor.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check and adjust belt tension to ensure proper grip on the pulleys.
  2. Clean the drive pulley and belt surface to remove contaminants.
  3. Inspect the drive pulley lagging for wear; replace it if necessary.
  4. Verify the conveyor is not overloaded and that the load is evenly distributed.
