World Engineering Day is a chance to recognise how practical engineering contributes to sustainability in real, measurable ways.
At Hoverdale, our approach to sustainability is centred on efficiency. As the business has continued to grow year-on-year, we’ve focused on reducing our carbon impact per £1m of revenue through better planning, preventative maintenance, and more efficient ways of working.
By extending asset life, reducing unplanned downtime, and maintaining existing plant correctly, engineering plays a direct role in cutting waste and avoiding unnecessary replacement of equipment.
This progress is supported internally through clearer carbon reporting and reduction planning, led by Abigail Beverley, ensuring improvements are properly measured and built on year after year.
Sustainable engineering is about doing the job right, tracking the results, and continuously improving over the long term.

Good work from the team supplying and fitting a new tungsten carbide head drum scraper at a quarry site.
Specified to suit the duty and belt conditions, the scraper has been installed to improve belt cleanliness at the head drum, reducing carryback and helping protect downstream equipment.
A straightforward but important upgrade, delivered properly by the Hoverdale team and handed back ready for operation.
